ABC新闻:澳最大运营商Telstra宣布裁员8000人 美国退出联合国人权理事会

The top stories today. The union covering Telstra workers says it's alarmed at the announcement to shed eight thousand jobs in a bid to cut costs. The telco says 25 per cent of its executive and middle-management positions will go as it tries to flatten its structure and save an extra billion dollars by 2022. The communications union says it was not consulted on the details of today's announcement. The United States has withdrawn from the United Nations Human Rights Council accusing it of a "chronic bias against Israel". US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley has CRIticised the council for allowing countries with questionable human rights records to be members desCRIbing the body as "hypoCRItical and self-serving". A previously secret report has revealed a five fold increase in serious assaults at the Arthur Gorrie correctional centre — a privately run remand centre west of Brisbane. The report from last year has been made public for the first time at the Queensland corruption watchdog's inquiry into corrective services. It states violence in the centre is increasing more than the rise in prisoner numbers would suggest. The New South Wales government has been slammed for not implementing a statewide ban on single use plastic bags. From today Woolworths will stop offering them at the checkout, with shoppers told to bring their own bags or buy reusable ones. Every other state has banned the single use bags and the New South Wales opposition says its time the state got in line. 来自:VOA英语网 文章地址: http://www.tingvoa.com/18/06/568043.html
